Venue
Dabney Lounge
The workshop is held in Dabney Lounge, in Dabney Hall on the Caltech campus. Dabney Hall was built in 1928 and has served since as one of the campus's gathering places for lectures and discussion. The lounge is a single room, which suits the format: one conversation at a time, with everyone in it.
The venue is on the Caltech campus, not at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. No visitor paperwork, badging, or citizenship declaration is required to attend.
Schedule for the day
The workshop runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, 8 April 2027. Coffee and pastries are provided in the morning and soft drinks and snacks in the afternoon. Lunch is taken at a campus dining facility a short walk from Dabney Hall. The detailed program will be posted by 1 March 2027.
Getting there
The Caltech campus is at 1200 East California Boulevard, Pasadena, California 91125. Dabney Hall is on the campus interactive map. The nearest campus entrance and the accessible route to the lounge will be added once confirmed with the campus.
Visitor parking
Visitors may park in any unreserved (commuter) stall in any campus lot or structure with a paid parking session. Sessions are required in all campus lots from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Payment is by mobile phone: signs at the stairwells of each parking structure carry a scan or text-to-pay option (no app is needed), and a daily session is valid until 5:00 p.m. on the day of purchase. At the time of writing the all-day rate is 9 USD plus a service fee. Full details are on the Caltech visitor parking page; rates and procedures are set by Caltech Parking and may change before the workshop.
Lodging
No room block is held. Attendees are responsible for their own travel and lodging. Caltech's travel office maintains a list of hotels used for campus visitors; several are in Pasadena within a short distance of campus, including the Athenaeum on campus itself, the Westin Pasadena, the Hyatt Place Pasadena, the AC Hotel Pasadena, Hotel Dena, the Pasadena Hotel, and the Langham. The list also includes hotels in Arcadia, Monrovia, and Monterey Park. Caltech's page notes that local hotels may offer educational-institution or government rates on request; availability and terms are the hotels' own.
